Campaigns & Events
NQWLS is involved in campaigns and events that encourage public discussion, action and advocacy around Domestic and Family violence and other issues affecting women and children in Queensland.
We regularly collaborate with community services, businesses and other for-purpose organisations on joint campaigns and events to amplify our message and bolster support for our vision of a safer North Queensland for all women and children. If you are interested in collaborating on a campaign or project, please contact us.
Here are a few of our regular campaigns and events:
Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month
Every year in May, NQWLS delivers a thought-provoking campaign for Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month.
Previous campaigns include:
2026 - Defy the Norm - Challenging the harmful myths, stereotypes, and attitudes that allow domestic and family violence to be misunderstood, minimised, or excused - particularly stereotypes around gender roles and expectations.
2025 - Every Action Counts- Encouraging our communities to consider what single action individuals, organisations or businesses can contribute to a safer North Queensland for women and children.
2024 - Love Doesn’t Equal Control - With the announcement of Queensland’s coercive control laws being introduced in May 2025, this campaign focussed on aspects of domestic and family violence that doesn’t leave bruises.
Many businesses engage with NQWLS on our annual campaigns by:
Downloading our toolkit and sharing resources
Using campaign stickers on food and beverage packaging
Sharing our social media posts
Turning lit assets purple.
Throughout the month NQWLS is also involved in a range of activities such as delivering Community Legal Education sessions, running engagement space at North Queensland Cowboys’ Community Corner, and candlelight vigils to honour and remember the women and children lost to domestic and family violence.
If your business or organisation would like to collaborate for our next Domestic and Family Violence Month campaign, please contact us.
NQWLS would like to take this opportunity to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all who support our campaigns throughout the year.

NQWLS hosts an annual community morning tea for UN Women’s International Women’s Day to celebrate and honour women in our communities in collaboration with Queensland Human Rights Commission.
Our International Women’s Day morning tea is a great opportunity to discuss issues affecting women and children in regional, rural, remote and very remote North Queensland.
The morning is well supported and attended and attracts inspiring and courageous guest speakers.
Thank you to all individuals, organisations, and businesses that support our annual IWD morning tea.
