Focus
The focus of the Indigenous
Women's Unit is to develop and deliver services that are
appropriate to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander women and responsive to their needs in relation to law
and justice matters.
The aim of the
Unit is:
Reference
Group
The reference
group is a representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander women within the service region and will provide a
focal point for IWU staff in the development and delivery of
services.
These women
will also play an important role in ensuring that staff of the
IWU are guided by women who have knowledge of the law and
justice issues that relate to Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander women within the region.
Community
Legal Education (CLE) Programme
The Community
Legal Education Programme aim is to:

Inform and
empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women so that
they will confidently access the legal system.

Provide
general information using the Community Legal
Education Kit to women in the community, whilst
training and giving more detailed information to support
women.
